Silvano Gamba was born in Gallarate, Varese, in 1939. Before devoting himself to painting, he learnt the art of xylographical engraving, moving on to artistic ceramics and later still to oil painting.
His subjects are treated in a very personal and particular way; reality as he sees it filtered through dreams, memories surfacing from the unconscious. The result is remarkable. The impression received when looking at these pictures is of still being able to participate in the world of fairy tales which, with the passing of the years, one has left behind. Holler wrote of him “Knowing this artist one seems, through his paintings, to turn inwards to the best part of oneself, honesty towards everyone and everything, and it would not be wrong for him to be considered the painter of truth.”
Silvano Gamba has participated in numerous competitions, winning prizes and gaining recognition from both the critics and the public. Among his many personal and group exhibitions, Stresa, Milan, and Belluno should be remembered.
